Mit Touren zu Landschaften der Extraktion und Akkumulation in Berlin, Brandenburg und Sachsen regte die nGbK-Projektgruppe The Driving Factor im Juni Diskussionen unter verschiedensten Expert_innen an. Thema dabei waren die Versprechen der Elektromobilität und der 'Energiewende'—insbesondere die zentrale aber trügerische Rolle, die der Lithiumbatterie als Speichertechnologie 'grüner' Energie zuteilwird. Die Tour-Teilnehmer_innen machten nicht nur die Erfahrung eines gemeinsamen Sprechens, Denkens und Wahrnehmens von Themenkomplexen, die oft als fachspezifisch und abstrakt gelten; sie trugen auch zu einem Prozess kollektiver Wissensproduktion bei, dessen materielle wie immaterielle, konkrete wie symbolische Ergebnisse in der station urbaner kulturen/nGbK Hellersdorf peu à peu 'geladen' werden.
Bei ihrer Inventur im The Driving Factor-Speicher aktiviert nun die Projektgruppe dieses eingelagerte Wissen und erzählt anhand von Objekten und Podcasts Geschichten, die quer durch das Narrativ des harmlosen Speicherblocks gehen. Die Künstlerin Ana Alenso bereichert die laufende Sammlung um einen Lautsprecher aus der für die Taube Erde-Tour realisierten Klangperformance und spricht über die Herausforderungen, in anthropogenen Landschaften künstlerisch zu intervenieren.


Touren, Ausstellung, Web-Repositorium: The Driving Factor
Im Fokus von The Driving Factor steht die Lithium-Ionen-Batterie. Mit Touren zu Landschaften der Extraktion und Akkumulation in Berlin, Brandenburg und Sachsen regte das Projekt im Juni Diskussionen unter verschiedensten Expert_innen an.
The Driving Factor betrachtet Strömungen, Lieferketten und existierende sowie potenzielle Formen des Widerstands, von Menschen und Nicht-Menschen gleichermaßen. Künstlerische Beiträge und Expert_innengespräche lenken die Aufmerksamkeit auf die teilweise zerstörerischen Veränderungen, denen Landschaften und soziale Räume der Extraktion und Akkumulation ausgesetzt sind, fragen aber auch, wie alternative Erfahrungs- und Handlungsräume gefördert werden können. Für die Dauer des Projekts wird die station urbaner kulturen/nGbK Hellersdorf zu einem „Speicher“ verwandelt, in dem neue und bestehende künstlerische Arbeiten, Recherchematerialien, Podcasts der Projektgruppe, sowie Eindrücke der Touren nach und nach eingelagert und in variierenden Zusammenhängen vorgestellt werden.[...]

Als digitaler, wachsender Speicher sammelt die Webseite thedrivingfactor.net Stimmen, Materialien und Themen des Projekts für ein breiteres Publikum. Hier werden im Nachgang der Touren deren künstlerische Dokumentation veröffentlicht und weitere Querverweise langfristig zugänglich gemacht.

The Driving Factor

With tours to landscapes of extraction and accumulation in Berlin, Brandenburg and Saxony, the nGbK project group The Driving Factor stimulated discussions among a wide range of experts in June. The topic was the promise of electromobility and the 'energy transition'-especially the central but deceptive role of the lithium battery as a storage technology for 'green' energy. The tour participants not only experienced a common speaking, thinking, and perceiving of issues that are often considered too technical and abstract; they also contributed to a process of collective knowledge production whose material as well as immaterial, concrete as well as symbolic results are 'loaded' peu à peu at the station urbaner kulturen/nGbK Hellersdorf.
In their inventory in The Driving Factor storage, the project group will activate this stored knowledge and through objects and podcasts, tell stories that cut across the narrative of the harmless storage block. Artist Ana Alenso contributes to the ongoing collection with a speaker from the sound performance she realised for the tour Taube Erde (“Deaf Earth”) and discusses the challenges of artistic intervention in anthropogenic landscapes.

Tours, exhibition, web repository: The Driving Factor
The Driving Factor takes the Lithium-ion battery as an occasion to critically reflect on the promise of the so-called energy transition. Thanks to three experimental tours in June, the project traced electric currents, supply chains and existing as well as potential forms of resistance among humans and non-humans alike. Artistic contributions and expert conversations draw attention to the transformations and partly, destruction experienced in landscapes and social spaces of extraction and accumulation, thereby asking how alternative experiences and collective action can be fostered. For the duration of the project, the station urbaner kulturen/nGbK Hellersdorf will be transformed into a storage unit in which new and pre-existing artistic works, research materials, podcasts from the working group, as well as incoming impressions of the tours will be displayed in varying assemblages.[...]

As a digital repository and storage unit, the website thedrivingfactor.net collects voices, materials, and topics from the project for a wider audience. Here, artistic documentation of the tours will be published and further cross-references made accessible.
